At Saint Mary’s, we have a dedicated team ready to help and support people who have experienced rape or sexual assault.
Our management team is led by Lisa Waters, Head of Operational and Strategic Performance.
Our medical team is led by our joint Clinical Directors Dr Michelle Carroll & Dr Helen Mills.
At Saint Mary’s we support women, men and children of all ages.
Our team is made up of:
Crisis workers
Their role is to support a person from the moment they arrive at SARC and throughout the forensic medical examination. They can answer any questions and will be present and reassuring during the whole visit. Our crisis workers are available on the phone 24/7 to offer support and advice to anyone who has experienced rape or sexual assault.
Forensic Doctors
We have a team of highly trained doctors. The doctors’ role is to gather evidence from the client for the police and to make sure that their medical needs are dealt with. We can offer appointments during the day, out of hours and at weekends.
Child and Young People’s Clinic
This is where we look after children and young people who have experienced child sexual abuse. We can check for sexually transmitted infections in children and young people. We have a dedicated crisis worker and a team of very experienced doctors.
Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs)
Our ISVA’s support people of all ages and all genders who have experienced sexual abuse regardless of when this happened.
An ISVA can offer support before or after someone has reported to the Police. They will provide independent information and support throughout the criminal justice process, supporting people to make informed choices throughout each step of the process regardless of the outcome.
Counselling team
The Centre's team of counsellors providing therapeutic support adults, children and families who have experienced rape, sexual assault or sexual abuse.
Child team
Our child service has continued to develop and grow since it first opened in 2006. As well as providing Child ISVA and Counselling support, It also comprises Young Person’s advocate with a special focus on Child Sexual Exploitation. They all support children, young people and their families who have experienced or been affected by rape, sexual assault or sexual abuse.
Admin team
The Centre is supported by a team of four administrators.
The Centre has a Research Associate and a Training and Development/Communications Officer.
