What To Do If You Have Been Raped or Sexually Assaulted

We have a team of specially trained and dedicated staff who understand the impact that rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse can have on people’s lives.
We can see people of all ages, women, men and children.
Our team will listen. We aim to help you recover both physically and emotionally from your experience.
You can take these steps now:
- If you feel in danger or at risk, it is important that you get urgent help. Please call 999 immediately to contact the police.
- If you have serious injuries or injuries that you are worried about, it is important that you seek immediate medical help and visit your nearest Emergency Department.
- Contact us on our 24-hour helpline 0161 276 6515 and talk to one of our crisis workers. They can offer support and advice. They can talk to you about your options and your next steps.
- If you want to report to the police and are safe, you can call 101. This will direct you to your local police team. If you would like support or advice on this, please call and speak to one of our team.
- If you are thinking you might want to report to the police at some point but are not sure what to do right now, then please call us. We can offer you with a forensic medical examination but keep hold of any evidence until you have decided what you would like to do.
- If you need help escaping a dangerous situation but have children or other responsibilities that make this difficult, please call us on 0161 276 6515 as we have links to other agencies who can help find you a safe place to stay. The police will also be able to help you.
- If you call us to tell us you have been raped or sexually assaulted, but do not want to report to the police, we will respect your wishes. Please be aware however, if we have concerns for your immediate welfare or that of anyone else or if we are concerned that any children have been harmed or are at risk of harm, we may need to share information with police or social care. We would keep you informed of this wherever possible.
It is never too late to reach out for support or advice following a rape or sexual assault.
If your assault did not take place recently then we may not be able to find any forensic evidence but will still be able to help you.
